because it defines the overall scale of your creation
you can't pretend your space station is miles long and wide and high in its majestic ponderous rotation if there's a yellow-faced dude with claw hands and no knees that is apparently 900 feet tall stood on top.

You COULD just build a bigger model but then I didn't have Mediocre's budget for sheer numbers of bricks to begin with.
