This is a question My most treasured possession

What's your most treasured possession? What would you rescue from a fire (be it for sentimental or purely financial reasons)?

My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Either that or my Grandfather's swords.

To lighten the mood somewhat
If only for myself...

I know how that fire would have been started....by my twin sons.

I've written previously about how they set the chimney alight when just toddlers - 999, Firebrigade, flames shooting out the top of the chimney.

However, I have an update on my little Firestarters....

A recent update actually...Wednesday to be precise.

I discovered the shower curtain had a hole in it - the sort of hole caused by a match flame.

Then I found an empty aerosol can with a 2" blackened circle on one side.

The sort of blackened circle that only a naked flame can cause.

Yes, my sons have discovered how to make homemade flame-throwers.

Be rest assured that we have had The Talk about the danger of aerosols, flame-throwers, matches and the wrath of their mother.

But if there are any house fires in the South East of the UK it's probably going to involve my experimental offspring.

The South East?
I don't know if I should fire-proof my flat, or come visit you...

Fire-proofing is probably wise
If my sons are around anyway!

Did I mention they're also extremely protective of me? Remember The Dangerous Brothers? My sons are modelling themselves on them.

The Dangerous Brothers?
No idea...
I'm quite a bit younger than most of you though...

I remember the Dangerous Brothers
Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson doing what Rik and Ade do best... being violent to one another.

I'm soooo old...

The Dangerous Brothers

I am also soooooooooooooo old! I also have an amazingly good memory!

And for an idea of what they were like...

Watching this is rather scary....that *is* exactly what my sons will be like in a few years..in fact they are already. Oh dear.

your boys sound terrifying
and yet sound like amazing fun.

This is why people like us shouldn't procreate....
You end up with very clever and very naughty kids.

Although mine would just be naughty and very big.

@bgb
you should fall for a midget.

Mine would be
Evil, cunning and suave.

So not at all like me.

@ BGB
I'm very pleased I did procreate - if only so I can be guaranteed of a good laugh most days.

I was also really, really pleased to hear one of my sons saying *exactly* what I was thinking the other day..."I'm not wearing tracksuit bottoms if I'm not playing sport - I'll look like a chav!"

A proud moment.

you should also warn them...
... that those homemade flamethrowers are absolutely not the best way to remove tattoos.

Even homemade tattoos.

@chickenlady
This wasn't them by any chance was it?

Sub-station fire in Essex
(, Fri 9 May 2008, 14:07, closed)
If they managed to cycle all the way to Essex
over the Dartfort Crossing too...I'd be impressed. So I can safely say, no that wasn't them.

*Phew*

Wait, it had a blackened circle on the SIDE?
So do you mean to say they were using aerosol can A (or, I suppose, something else) to try to burn the side of aerosol can B, and you found can B? If so, that sounds really scary - when I was about 9 my dad threw an aerosol can into a barrel-o-fire, and when it ruptured it flew a good 50 feet.
(, Fri 9 May 2008, 18:39, closed)
No, only one can
They had used up all the contents in the can (while making a flame thrower) and then, I presume they decided to burn the can.

Very, very stupid behaviour.
