This is a question "You're doing it wrong"

Chthonic confesses: "Only last year did I discover why the lids of things in tubes have a recessed pointy bit built into them." Tell us about the facepalm moment when you realised you were doing something wrong.

Moon
Until three days ago, I'd always thought the various phases of the moon were caused as the Earth's shadow passed across the Moon.

It was only on Friday as I sat in the park drinking cocktails and saw the Sun and the Moon in the same sky that something in my brain said: 'that doesn't make sense...'

We eventually modelled the movements of the Earth, Moon and Sun using limes and worked out how it actually works...

This is how...

I like this
for the way you worked it out for yourself. Newton had apples, you had limes, so you're following prestigious traditions.

working it out...
yes, the fact that we managed to work it out ourselves did make me feel fractionally less retarded for having gotten it wrong for all these years...

You discovered it's just God's will?

I once had to explain
to two little old ladies on a plane from Singapore to Heathrow, why the flight took 13 hours, but local time was only about 5 hours later when they got home.

I think they got it. They'd been puzzling about it for ages, and I politely interrupted their conversation as it was doing my head in!

But now i've read that link above.
I still prefer the shadow theory. :(

Eclipses are still our fault though?

Of the moon or of the sun?

Up until I met my current fella
I thought the sun and moon were the same....Sun for daytime that changed into the Moon at night. Ooops! I clearly paid no attention whatsoever in science class at school >.<
