it's hideous. I'm ashamed to wear it.

I wore school uniform far more after I left school
than I ever did while I was there

unless it's yellow or something daft
most uniforms look pretty good.. from the outside though.. i know wearing them feels pretty restrictive
hence the reason they love this new rule where you can't mess about with your knot

Maroon
*always* looks horrible and ruins any other colour it's with.

maroon and grey is a school uniform staple
both dirty enough colours to get a weeks worth out of

Oh god our uniform was terrible.
No long trousers until you were 14, Red, blue and yellow striped blazers and caps and a straw boater in the summer. This was in the East End of London (Leyton Grammar School) so we learnt to fight pretty damn quick. In fact any kids caught fighting were put in the boxing ring and made to fight properly.

how archaic
neither my primary school nor high school had compulsory uniform, so we only wore them for prizegiving once a year, and when the choir and orchestra performed.

You have to keep in mind that he went to school in the 18th century.

If we were caught out of uniform, even going home,
we would get 3 strokes of a lether strap to our arses. Even a crooked tie would get you one good hard whack with it. It was nicknamed 'The Snake' for some reason.

The funny thing was that
our school suddenly closed down without warning one Summer holliday. It turned out the head didn't have any qualifications (he owned the school) and was bumming some of the weaker kids. I had to do my final year at a very tough comprehensive school and left the day I was old enough.

I can beat this.
white cotton sack shaped frock with green and maroon checks with a maroon jumper in summer - calf length wool pleated green and maroon tartan skirt, maroon jumper, black stockings and a green blazer and tie in winter.
I tell ya - the dress is a pedo's dream come true. Doesn't even need to rain for everybody to know what colour and kind of underwear you're wearing.

And I shall dedicate a few more next week. I can't believe I just said that. I'm normally so timid.

The glove we used would be banned these days.
They were about 50 years old even then. Heavy leather with dangling laces that could really hurt. Several kids left the ring bleeding and broken.
