mmm chili con carne

(, Thu 28 May 2009, 13:57, archived)
some people put chocolate in it, this is clearly wrong and stupid

wrong and stupid a bloody good idea.

Cocoa counteracts the heat of capsicum. It allows you to use stronger chili for the flavour, whilst not overdoing the heat. It also adds richness.

There's no bloody point chucking dairy milk in mind you, it needs to be very dark. Cocoa powder does a reasonable job. Forum banter, no offence.

I have had chili with chocolate in it.
I don't put it in mine though. I make hot chili and serve it with a spoon of sour cream splodged on top.

The fat in the cream emulsifies the capsaicin, taking some of the heat away.

It's outlandish statements like that, and "Cheddar cheese is the asda value vanilla ice cream of the cheese world", that makes this place all the better.
