Food never used to be wasted.

Ooooooh, thinking long back.
Nice.

But as roneah points out, do boars count as pork?
and how long have pigs been domesticated?
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:39, archived)
I wouldn't have thought so
boar is boar, pork is pork. At least not when they were distinct species still.

How did our eating habits change from hunting boar in the forest opportunistically,
versus having domesticated pigs in our own back garden?

Also have to take into consideration the trade element. How expensive/cheap were pigs considered to be compared to other animals. Were they the caviar of our day, or just the bread and butter to be casually tossed aside when we're full?
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:42, archived)
Well they wouldn't have wasted any
uses for all of them. Anything better than gruel or cabbage was caviar.

Sort of. This isn't very factual, we aren't even talking about any date in particular

I'm just bullshitting.
It feels like I'm back in my Psychology A Level classes. :)

Pigs have been domesticated for a very very very long time.
Every household had one, even serfs.
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:44, archived)
Did they milk them?
I wonder what pig-cheese tastes like.
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:45, archived)
It used to be said
That everything on a pig was eaten except for the squeak.

Boars are wild pigs.

do pigs other than domesticated ones count as being pork?
boar and pigs aren't the same genus, according to wikipedia
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:51, archived)
Wikipedia says
'Pigs have been domesticated since ancient times'. No proper timeline though.
(, Tue 9 Jun 2009, 20:48, archived)
Does it mention the Pigosaurus?
