We've got a whole other Greek problem right now.One of the lads who wants to be President gave an interview a few years ago where he said that the ancient Greeks had the right attitude to paedophilia.
They should probably give Greece to him.

I read that interview.It seems that it's now being taken completely out of context. That's not to say that it wasn't a fucking stupid thing for a politician to come out with- he should have engaged his brain and realised the potential implications- however what he was talking about was the Classical Greek relationship between an older man and adolescent youth and referring to it hypothetically. He should also have chosen his words more carefully- the word he was looking for was pederasty rather than paedophilia.

Quite, but despite repeated prompts from the interviewer he insisted on using the term paedophilia.He tried to justify this later, still in 2002 here, by saying that he's an academic, but frankly, being an academic means you should know how to user a dictionary.
He's now trying to brush over this, and a couple of other howlers, by saying that everyone should ignore everything he said before he declared he ewas running for President, which is fucking bizarre.
Oh, and he said that McAleese was the first president "from a nationalist background."
Which is only true if you ignore every other President we've had.
