there's a difference between writing a children's book and hoping it will be successful
and writing one following market testing and research, and brainstorming sessions where you have tried to calculate maximum appeal as if you were planning an advert for a new plastic toy. Maybe I'm just an old romantic* at heart but I think that's horrible.

That's how pretty much everything is made now though
If you want financial backers, you have to persuade them using pretty graphs and lots of numbers, much as we'd like to think so concept is no longer king, if kids are involved it's peak cynicism and box ticking
