It's about 12 years old (hi spanishfly!) so no big deal, do they take those in at the shops for recycling?
Might get another CD player at some point but for non-vinyl listening I just use Sonos speakers.

didn't matter if it was a basic Cambridge Audio or a high-end Arcam or something, they had better PSUs and digital-audio converters though.
They can repair it for you if you take it back to Richer Sounds and it probably won't be expensive but if it were me I'd just go on Facebook Marketplace and find someone selling a CD player near me. You can get a pretty nice Sony, Marantz, Denon or something for bugger all.
Helpful consumer advice but not a great anecdote.

I do have a workaround which is playing the CD through my Xbox, then using my sonos setup to send the sound from the TV to the speakers. But it's a bit of a faff. I'd rather just be able to route a CD player through my mixer.
