I remember when racists were getting upsed that John Boyega was in Star Wars
and at least one news outlet reported that their problem was "an African American character". Seeing as how the actor is from London and the character is from a galaxy far, far away, I'm not quite sure how they came up with that description.

Americans think "African-American" means "black", and that if you speak Spanish, you must be brown.
Variety got justifiably ribbed a few years ago when they called Anya Taylor-Joy a 'woman of color' because her first language is Spanish, despite her having 100% European ancestry and being literally the palest person who's ever lived.
