I wouldn't call The Shining 'tame' by any means,but then, I'm not really into these 'horror' films where the emphasis is just on close-up shots of people being tortured and killed for two hours, as opposed to any attempt at atmosphere and suspense.

Totally with you there, genuinely don’t get the appeal of these ‘torture porn’ films Sometimes leaving things to imagination is far more creative and inventive, although that’s sometimes down to budget constraints.
Also The Shining is a fucking masterpiece
