In exciting toilet-based news
it's been a partial victory with the toilet cistern. I replaced the inlet valve and the flush mechanism but the new piping between the cistern and the toilet pan has slowed down the water so the flush is a bit lacklustre and less dramatic. As a water feature it's not as exciting but still gets rid of turds.
