Has anyone done a presents thread?
I got lots of red wine, some coffee syrups and a sort of leather bracelet thingy that was engraved with the kids initials. I've spent the last few days happily making Lego with the kids. I brought down my old box of it from the loft and we all sat happily making robots for about 3 hours

The lamb I bought to have with the turkey was fucking NOM too, in a late response to Mcbeef's food thread.

Lego, skateboards, Frozen-themed shite, eight tonnes of chocolate

How long did Dozer stay on Christmas day?

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:30, Reply)
the rest of him is in the fridge
I'm thinking a hearty soup and a vindaloo
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:38, Reply)
As a vegetarian, it's what he would have wanted.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:40, Reply)
I sorted an XBox 360 for the kids for free too
We also got a table football game, which is fucking brilliant!
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:32, Reply)
Do you usually charge your kids for setting up their Christmas gifts?

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:35, Reply)
Yeah
Is that wrong?
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:37, Reply)
they've converted the babyfoot table into some sort of den
which is a relief because the six year old will soon be able to beat me

Trying to explain that "spinning is baaaaad, m'kay" at the moment

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:53, Reply)
spinning is part of the game

yerr ... try saying that through your tears when you've been thrashed to zero by somebody who's barely three feet tall

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:59, Reply)
I got a Dremel, an electric file, smellies and clothes
All stuff I asked for, no surprises - except the Xmas day announcement of my daughter's engagement! Woo, yay and, if I may make so bold, houpla!

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 11:52, Reply)
I got some whisky, some chateauneuf du pape, a bottle of dandelion and birdshite
which is a humorously named dark mild apparently. Also some whisky tumblers and a decanter, a game about cutting peoples heads off, a book and a dvd and some smellies.

Not a bad haul. Not sure I made a profit though, I need to adjust my spending spreadsheet for next year.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:37, Reply)
I've got a case of smashing Châteauneuf du Pape in the larder
but I'm sure most people buy it because the place has a stupid name. It's like buying beer from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:43, Reply)
also ... anything in France with 'neuf' in the name is invariably really fucking old
the idiots
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:47, Reply)
Can you get neuf guns?

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:48, Reply)
yup ... they were made in 1640

Which was nice, because that's what I wanted.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:45, Reply)
I got enough Port, Stilton, and Stilton MADE with Port to give me gout just by looking at it.
Some other stuff too, but I only cared about the booze and cheese.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:47, Reply)
i got the christmas holiday and a summer holiday
clothes, pink vodka, pink champagne from some obscure little vineyard that my dad's friend likes, books, cushions shaped like biscuits, make-up, and PINK BEATS.

it was brilliant watching the kids with their presents. although one of them was an interactive doll, and i was worried i might have made its first words be, "fuck me, it's fucking hideous". let's hope so.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:53, Reply)
Is that what the doll instinctively said when it saw you?

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:56, Reply)

luckily, like the rest of the universe, i don't give a tiny rats ass about your opinion

They really are shit unfortunately.
Prime example of well marketed tat.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 12:59, Reply)
way too much bass and hugely overpriced

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:01, Reply)
the rest of the universe shares his opinion
they're aimed at the sort of tweenage twit who'd wear glittery sneakers on a ... oh ... righto
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:05, Reply)
Beats - I'm sure that 'Dr' Dre has the necessary acoustic and electronic qualifications to make a perfectly excellent pair of headphones...
...with true sound reproduction for the discerning audiophile. I'd hate to think they were badly-designed overhyped crap for the type of dribbling sheeplike mongs who'll buy anything 'cos it's designer, innit'
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:13, Reply)
they're rebranded Monster headphones

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:14, Reply)
fortunately the buying public is full of complete fucking idiots

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:23, Reply)
I'm pretty sure they are perfectly acceptable headphones for listening to music on if you aren't a jumped up bedroom dj or a fat middle aged member of 'twang club'with ideas above your station.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:23, Reply)
Sennheisers all the way

£1.00 in ear headphones from poundland ftw.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:26, Reply)
The same as my opinion of beats, if they work and you like them that's just fine by me.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:28, Reply)
My wife has a pair of Gucci headphones.
They're surprisingly well balanced.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:29, Reply)
Obviously I bought the offending pair of headphones for swipey. I tried them out, they are 'fine' for listening to music and she likes them because they're pink. Who am I to argue?

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:31, Reply)
If you've made a woman happy, all power to you.
You could've got a pink pair from poundland though.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:34, Reply)
She said she'd quite like some beats. I got her what she asked for. It's a simple affair really, and I'm not using them so my opinion of their reproductive sound quality matters not.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:44, Reply)
you're quite defensive about this simple affair, if you don't mind me saying

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:48, Reply)
Colour the 'b' in to match the rest of the headphones.
Remove all of that tacky commercial stuff.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:51, Reply)
They aren't mine to deface. That's vandalism.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:53, Reply)
Not vandalism...
a romantic surprise.

I've had a better idea though. Add 'udgie' to the b. You might need to glue on some extensions to fit it in though.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 14:04, Reply)
bit of copydex and dip them in purple glitter

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:53, Reply)
Last cheapo pair I bought gave me an electric shock in my ear
:o(
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:28, Reply)
You should've tucked them under your foreskin and played a low frequency saw wave through them.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:30, Reply)
Send them to dozer pl0x

All the way up your arse along with your head and all of your many, many, many wrong opinions.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:26, Reply)
Opinion? - not this time
Test results - personal test results obtained in an acoustics lab at City University when I was studying there. Pink noise through the amplifier - tested with binaural B&K frequency analyser. The Sennheisers were the closest to perfect reproduction.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:30, Reply)
yeah I am aware of their qualities, let's not forget I have a 'musicology degree'
however for all of your tedious bluster I'm more interested in buying someone something they like rather than something of studio quality that doesn't colour the sound in any way and I can bore the arse off anyone asking about them by regurgitating a stream of dull 'facts' no one really cares to hear.
(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:42, Reply)
it's very important to pay five times the price for something mediocre

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 13:31, Reply)
Innit tho.

(, Tue 30 Dec 2014, 14:31, Reply)
I bet most people here dissing them, haven't even heard a whole EP on them.

Oddly, the random gift I got for the Doris has been really well received.
The curse of leaving shopping 'till the last minute means I end up buying nonsense gifts.

thankfully, she is looking forward to the indoor sky-diving experience day. Even if it will mean going to Milton Keynes to do it.
