# BBC Talent
thought i might give it a go, can you read these and tell us what you think? they need fine tuning, but hopefully the substance is there
www.ukdragon.com/b3ta/oobladee.htm

edit: hows that for you?

# Can you
convert it to plain text or HTML, so (a) we can be more sure it's not got a virus, and (b) people without a word processor can read it?
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 15:57, archived)
# Sorry, wandered off...
that's better for me, yup... and I like the middle one best.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:22, archived)
# i think
the first and second are fab - the third has a great start but loses itself when the dog comes out.. not too sure how to repair it though.

well done :)

# I think Andrew's one
kind of fizzles out towards the end
;)
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:01, archived)
# i agree
i think my original ending was something to do with school league tables
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:02, archived)
# It would depend on how the headmaster and mother were played I think
You might need to stress a more sensible side to the headmaster so that he sounds like he's being reasonable later on or something.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:05, archived)
# hmm
interesting...
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:06, archived)
# I think i want
to take some pills nows...

i need to forget...
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:01, archived)
# the
second one is a bit like a monty python skecth isn't it, or was it a not the nine oclock news one?

Can say I thought they weren't brilliant Im afraid! But then I like really surreal things.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:02, archived)
# you can say what you like
thats why i put them here
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:02, archived)
# No, it was
a Rowan Atkinson skit. Pre-Bean.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:05, archived)
# Only read the first one so far
no offence, but I didn't find it particularly funny.

Second one is much better.

Third is very Monty Python - thinking Arthur Two Sheds Jackson style territory.

I'd say the second one has the most potential, just needs a bit more development/build-up.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:02, archived)
# thats quite odd...
not in a bad way of course.
and its jeopardize, not jeapordize
(or maybe with an ise, depending on how you brits spell it)
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:03, archived)
# i like to switch between
s and z from time to time. it livenz thingz up.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:05, archived)
# Not bad
although the middle one smacks of an old Rowan Atkinson sketch
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:05, archived)
# check your spelling, grammar & punctuation
but the first one is o-k..

Second one good but needs harder drugs - amphetamines? forget that..

third quite amusing.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:06, archived)
# i like the word amphetamines
it rolls off the tongue.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:07, archived)
# I would suggest...
...putting more jokes in. There's too many gaps with no laughs.
It's the kind of comedy you'd find on Comedy Lab on C4. BBC are pretty specific about what they want comedywise, check out the Commissioning section on their website and watch some 'BBC flavoured' comedy.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:06, archived)
# i'd much rather get into radio comedy
saying that, i don't listen to it all that much. never know when its on.

i like the comedy lab so i am going to read that as "wow, that is really really ace and brill"
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:13, archived)
# Yeah, I know what you mean....
...and it's a bit touch and go quality wise too....
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:14, archived)
# yeah
i have heard some of those radio 2 panel things they have, some of those are quite good. but apparantly radio 4 is brimming its nuts off with comedy. see, i pride myself (if only because i watch a ridiculous amount of tv) on being one of the select few who watch tv programmes before they get really popular and crap (eg ali g when he was on the 11 o'clock show, when bo selecta was just E4 shorts, and when dom joly was on the comedy lab) but then i hear about Partridge being on the radio? what? chris morris had Jam on radio 1?

and i feel left out...
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:19, archived)
# Also...
...Comedy Lab is very experimental and appeals to very narrow and varying groups. People who've got stuff on aren't usually asked to do more of the same (though Joly was) - they might be commissioned to do something for someone else based on the fact that they've got something made.

BBC want broader stuff that'll appeal to more people. You're around 18-20?
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:18, archived)
# just turned 20
last sunday. but i think a lot of bbc comedy is shit. partridge, big train and something that i can't remember off the top of my head are the only good things on it.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:21, archived)
# I agree...
...it is generally pretty shite. But they know what they want and aren't terribly flexible...don't know too much about how Comedy Lab stuff is commissioned, why don't you find out and try to target them?
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:24, archived)
# its all part of my "Apply Yourself You Lazy Bastard" Season
i AM going to try and find a work experience placement in radio this summer.
i AM going to keep writing stuff, rather than just try and get into the industry and then think "well i am here now, now what?"
i AM going to send off lots of pestering letters to producers, station managers etc.
etc.
(, Wed 2 Apr 2003, 16:27, archived)
# I liked
the third one....it had mention of a labrador named Shatner.

Not sure about the other two, I'm afraid - the first didn't ring my bell, and the second has a dark Jam type subject, but doesn't seem to have conviction.

But they're still better than any sketches I've written, and you're damn brave for sticking them on here.
