I agree. Having missed the brosnan era, I was so disappointed with the craig eps - I want to see them pop up to the moon again - or maybe even mars!

but Austin powers did a fairly good job of making that all seem ridiculous.
I think Brosnan's films (however much I may detest him) did a fairly good job of combinign the two (Goldeneye especially).
QoS went far too far in the wrong direction and as a result was VERY dissapoitning

And I like the Connery/Craig approach.
I want Bond to look like he could give you a good thrashing.
I do miss the slight silliness though, but i hope it never goes back to the Moore level of it...

but austin powers was a parody of something that was already quite good at taking the piss out of itself. That's all gone now, it takes itself far too seriously.

plus, audiences are more like youTube commenters these days - expecting realism. The cold war meant that people could dispense belief in a war-mongering, all-powerful evil genius.
Plus, the modern world can pretty much give us most gadgets Bond had in previous movies.

I just think there's a fine line... It could end up turning into Never Say Never Again.

Die another day took it too far as well.
The last bond film to get it right was GoldenEye.

he loved and was betrayed, which explains his misogynist attitude to women. It's a necessary evil
