# ^this
plus more puns. What's a bond movie without puns?

# gadgets/Q branch, the evil genius lair, plots threatening to destroy the world etc etc
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:45, archived)
# don't forget bikini-clad girls with silly names

# well that goes without saying

I agree. Having missed the brosnan era, I was so disappointed with the craig eps - I want to see them pop up to the moon again - or maybe even mars!

# oh, I don;t want to see it getting too silly (ok, I do really like moonraker) but it just needs some of the old Bond magic back again.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:58, archived)
# exactly, it's not hard is it?
just stick to the fucking formula. Also, bring back blofeld, havent seen him in a while.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:47, archived)
# mmmm... I know what you're saying
but Austin powers did a fairly good job of making that all seem ridiculous.

I think Brosnan's films (however much I may detest him) did a fairly good job of combinign the two (Goldeneye especially).

QoS went far too far in the wrong direction and as a result was VERY dissapoitning

# Tbh, I read the books (well most of them) ,
And I like the Connery/Craig approach.
I want Bond to look like he could give you a good thrashing.

I do miss the slight silliness though, but i hope it never goes back to the Moore level of it...
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:55, archived)
# i reckon roger moore has still got another bond in him.
it cant be more ridiculous than View to a Kill
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:02, archived)
# I watched For Your Eyes Only at the weekend
tahat is the great forgotten Bond film.

Moore is excellent in that, and it's got some, still superb, action
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:06, archived)
# And, of course, it has the Cuban hitman, Hector Gonzales.
Worth it for that alone.

;-)

# Walther PPK
standard issue... British Secret Service.
License to kill....*pause*... or be killed. Take him away!

# i agree up to a point
but austin powers was a parody of something that was already quite good at taking the piss out of itself. That's all gone now, it takes itself far too seriously.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:00, archived)
# but that type of Bond wont do as well...
plus, audiences are more like youTube commenters these days - expecting realism. The cold war meant that people could dispense belief in a war-mongering, all-powerful evil genius.

Plus, the modern world can pretty much give us most gadgets Bond had in previous movies.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:51, archived)
# but they have just made it all so sterile....
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:56, archived)
# I totally agree...
I just think there's a fine line... It could end up turning into Never Say Never Again.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 9:57, archived)
# *shudders*
Die another day took it too far as well.

The last bond film to get it right was GoldenEye.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:00, archived)
# Die another day everyone agrees was dreadful
it was also, at the time, the most succesfful Bond film ever.

Go figure
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:07, archived)
# nah... The World Is Not Enough is my favourite Bond of recent years
mainly due to the French bird... and the opening sequence

Sophie Marceau... yum
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:13, archived)
# the thing I hate most is Bond falling love
bleurgh!!!

If I want that stuff, I'll watch a chick flick.
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:02, archived)
# you see... the thing about that is... it shapes the character
he loved and was betrayed, which explains his misogynist attitude to women. It's a necessary evil
(, Thu 22 Apr 2010, 10:15, archived)
# what hubare said
but he didn't even get a shag in the last one
