yeah she did
i dont think she actually had diabetes - i'm type 2 but i cant see how having the op can cure that - unless your eating a lot of sugary food.

Allo, sorry to crash your discussion but I read
an article couple of years ago, Royal Liverpool Hospital I think. They had discovered that diabetes was regularly disappearing as a side effect of the bypass wossname. Only way I could guess (not being medical) is that the part of the gut that was removed formerly absorbed something that perpetuated the diabetes. At the time I think they discussed the possibility of doing the op for diabetes alone, regardless of wanting to lose weight. Dunno if anything came of it, not kept up to date. Anyroad it's done you a power of good, congratulations.

thanks :)
one of the ways you're almost sure to be approved for the op now is if you've got diabetes

type 2 can be caused by a build up of fats surrounding the pancreas,
at a guess, by a dramatic loss of weight, some of that may be broken down, allowing the pancreas to function a little more efficently

I've been ridiculously thin for most of my life.
Helped in part by constantly forgetting to eat at mealtimes.
All of a sudden I'm in a nice relaxed job with a decent canteen and I've put on a couple of stone!!

bariatric bypass changes levels of gut hormone secretion
altering the enteroinsular axis. It's a remarkably successful treatment of diabetes in obese people.

......the downside is now all-you-can-eat buffets are no longer value for money.
So I ask you, is it REALLY worth it?
