ponyo ftw

The wierdness in spirited away was acceptable, because old japanese ghosts / gods are wierd as fuck, generally, but its still no excuse for grotesque grannies with giant heads and clitorises on their forehead.
I prefer the simpler, more charming tales, like kiki, which had no wierdness, bad guys, curses, fantasy realms, monsters or real peril.

Like the giant airships that kind of leaked through into Laputa.
That trailer for Whisper of the Heart on all the DVDs is extraordinary for the little references and cross-over of motifs to the other films, even though the film itself is a simple modern story of young relationships. A shame the director didn't get to do any more, on account of his premature promotion to full time daisy pusher-upperer.

It's OK, but maybe it's just the concept of 'tasting human blood' that really weirds me out. That's just nasty. At least it wasn't as awful as their version of 'Earthsea' though.
Then again, the bit in Spirited Away where it goes all Disney with that hopping lamp is the strangest part. The tram running through the flood is awesome.

review: "it just stopped"
I guess that's a side effect of making what's effectively an episode in a series of books, apparently the author didn't like the animation much.

And when the boy was going on about how he was probably going to die at the hospital, geez, we figured that out already -- but way to completely bring me down.
Ponyo was cute. I felt like it left bits unresolved, though.
Spirited Away is just plain awesome.
