what was wrong with Star Trek
Other than Simon Pegg's awful comedy character? (not you Simon, the other one)

I too thought Star Trek was OK.
I'd prefer to watch that than Star Trek The Motion Picture.
Do I have to start running now?

The plot device "Oh yeah, I can teleport to a ship that's *at warp*
Kinda convenient.

and out of all the absurd technologies, you're picking that?
are you a deep fan?

Yes, and no
Red matter that can implode anything? Fine, we'll go along with that nonsense because it might be some exotic matter that is just a convenient ultimate-weapon. But when the plot gets to "Ok, we're stranded on this remote iceplanet and the ship is zooming away really quickly and we need to catch up" it's a bit lazy to just say "Oh, let's just beam there using this wonderful technology that I've conveniently been working on and might beam us into the water processing unit with hilarious results".
Indeed, all the "comic" moments were a bit "errm" to me.

Kevin Smith has talked at length about things like this, where a piece of nonsense irks the fans.
But come the fuck on, the ground rules for transporters have been around for years, it's just fucking wrong.
Come to think of it, Spock has Kirk ejected onto a hostile planet for no other reason than he's pissing him off. That's a much bigger WTF moment for me. Why didn't anyone else on the bridge question this?

Pegg hardly stood out in the raft of poorly-realised characters...
About the only one who was in the least bit convincing was Bones.
Above all though, it's my belief that Trek is based on the premise of "it all turned out more or less OK for humanity, and then..." so to reboot the whole feckin' tale on an out and out war footing is utterly crass.

I have no idea what you're on about there
I thought Star Trek was based on the premise of Grown men running around in a gravel pit going "peeeow" with lasers at people in funny masks
Same as star wars, except they liked forests and deserts more

I liked the Star Trek reboot and I am a big Trek fan ( I play Star Trek Online ffs)
Repeat watching makes me cringe though, the plot devices are stupid and the Enterprise looks mildly shit.

I agree with that last point more than anything else raised.
The enterprise did look mildly shit.

I've played STO too, up to 50th level
But it sucks that you have to pay to get a decent top-level ship. Damn them and their needing a revenue source to run a free game!

I'm grinding for an Odyssey Class at the moment, also at level 50.
I'm using my Klingon character as well. They have more missions where you can pick up Contraband, better drops too. I mail it to my Starfleet character and turn it in for dilithium.
Hark at me, a regular bloody Gamesmaster!
