In other news....
I went to unplug my EIGHT YEAR OLD daughters iPad mini yesterday....
Here's the result.

Notice the charring on one of the pins.....

It's been suffering with an intermittent charging problem that Apple could not track down after 3 visits to the Liverpool store...
And before you ask, NO... it was OEM cable, OEM charger.. in fact the charger and cable where both only 3 weeks old purchased from the Liverpool Apple store on recommendation as they could not track down the charging issue.. not a cheap e-bay 99p death trap!

I'd have more luck suing the church of Scientology!
Things have progressed a little since I posted this, my status went semi-viral on it on facebook... (mainly due to the outrage that it belongs to an 8 year old)
The daily Mirror have been on the phone to me and they want to interview me for a possible story on it!
(Apple best send me a free macbook air or something by way of an apology/bribe)

you clearly have more money than sense and this is simply a sign from god telling you to buy your child dolls and prams and stuff like a proper parent

I've not got more money than sense, It was a choice between an android tablet or spend the extra £100 or so on an iPad... I chose the iPad because they have outstanding build quality (but not so much in the charging department) and gorilla glass in them so it can really take a beating... She's only with me on weekends and we use facetime to stay in contact through the week... I know I could have gotten an Android tablet and used Skype.. She has all the dolls/prams/figures under the sun! (and I am yet to use a decent Android based tablet)
The Daily Mirror are sending a journalist out to my place tomorrow morning for photos before Apple send a courier out to collect it.

Easily mistaken for soot / smoke. I do this sort of thing all the time - it's my job to break electronic kit to see if it fails safely.
Blown caps are less dangerous than you might think - they tend to blow at a lower temperature than actual explodey fire and that. As far as I can see in the pic, there's no melting of the plastic, which is a giveaway that the temperatures weren't dangerously high.
Still shitly built for that to happen, mind you. Certainly you're entitled to your money back, and if you've been upset by it, then I'd expect them to give you vouchers.
And I'd expect them to tell you the outcome of their investigation, too.

to paraphrase the Beatles "I've got blisters on me fingers!!!!" and did get a nasty shock from it!
I am not an engineer but the only real damage I can see is where the pins from the wall met the circuit board... the charring on the PCB is around the solder point of the live cable.... (maybe it was a bad joint and the wire slipped) I don't know yet....
It's OEM from the apple store in Liverpool (never used a cheap charger on it due to reports of them just going bang)... The Daily Mirror have been out and interviewed me and my daughter.... took about 4000 pictures (With the most amazing camera I have ever seen... The guy let me take a few pictures with it... it had a "multi focus" mode that you point... half depress the shutter, again and again and then press down fully to take the photo... it could handle up to 12 focus points in one snap) anywho.. The guy asked if he could pass my contact details back to Apple and my phone rang 9 minutes later with some snotty bird from Ireland (the press office) she was really rude and abrupt and spat out words like a machine gun spits out bullets... She really lost her temper with me when I asked her to speak a little slower! But they are sending someone out to collect it tomorrow now... The case continues... Not sure if it's going to be a digital on-line thing or in print yet.... Apple have refused to comment before they get chance to examine it but the story can still run!
