The paper does have to have a little bit to it to put the wax down. Might give it a try, though (if I ever get the time to draw again).

alternatively, the back of old wallpaper does offer some good purchase, for pastels. But for pencil work I would recommend some nice heavy paper. The best comes from Italy, but is quite pricey.

the pattern on that 2quid coin always reminded me of the cover off of Pink Floyd's Pulse. good solo on Comfortably Numb on that, though TBH I prefer the one on the Delicate Sound of Thunder.
