# I'm confused about why this child is still so important to warrant such media attention
when on average 1051898 other children have been reported missing in the UK alone in the last 6 years

Not belittling the grief suffered by the McCanns, just saying what about the other 1051898 parents?

# I'm sure you mean
2103796 parents :)

# I was referring to them in the singular so as not to upset single parent families ;)

# That is because they are not really missing...
...just hidden under their retarded uncles bed...probably.

# I'd be surprised if the police actually advise
parents to go down the media route.

The McCanns willingness to be so open with the papers probably helped make it a bigger story, but they get some awful shit in return.

Missing child stories that make the TV news usually feature the parent being interviewed, presumably because that's more gawp-fodder for the viewers than talking to a policeman.

# 90% of the time
the person who did it is one of those being interviewed. I assumed that's why the police do that.

# According to criminal minds and law & order SVU
for most child abductions, if the child isn't found within the first 24 hours they're probably dead.

(it was on TV therefore must be true)
