THREADJACK: I've just been asked to make a naming ceremony card. Has anyone ever been to a naming ceremony? Should I just make it like a Christening card without the word Chritening on it? :/

# naming ceremony?
for a person or a building/boat/other inanimate object?

# Is that what a naming ceremony is?
a non religious christening?
I've never come across this concept before

# A naming ceremony?
"We're making a stand and not christening our child, but completely wussing out and pandering to the beliefs of our relatives by having a naming ceremony."

# the whole idea of a naming ceremony
reminds me a little bit of Terry pratchett, letting the child be officially named at midnight so they start a new day with an official name
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:46, archived)
# the problem is
she has given me no information other than "naming ceremony card needed" in the title and nothing else!! I'm assuming it's for a child
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:46, archived)
# Assume it's for a ship
and design accordingly.

# Assume it's for a boat
Then, if the worst comes to the worst, at least you've got a nice card handy should anybody need to name a boat.

Just launching it into the sea will do.

# but it's only smacking they've banned
they didn't mention that we can't hit them with bottles

# here's a wild notion
email back and ask for more information... ;)
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:49, archived)
# Can't you email them
and get them to clarify a bit? It does sound pretty vague and you'd look a bit silly if you made something completely unsuitable because they didn't make themselves clear.
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:49, archived)
# well I did email her
asking did she want a name on it and was it a boy or girl, but I sell cards - I should know this!! I didn't want to appear to be an idiot in front of a customer

# Thing is,
if it's a helicopter or something she'll think you're taking the piss now.
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:52, archived)
# which would be more foolish?
to admit you don't know and therefore be able to provide a more accurate response, or to guess and get it absurdly wrong?
(, Tue 24 Jun 2003, 19:54, archived)
# I'm not going to guess
I just thought I'd see if anyone here knew anything so that I could be a bit more knowledgeable.
