If you drag the CD drive into the dustbin, it opens up the CD-Tray. Apparently you can do that with there equivelent to 'my computer'.

No. In OS X, you drag volumes you want to eject to the eject icon.

Edit: and even in older versions of the Mac, when you could do that as a quick way of removing a volume, it still makes a fuckload more sense than having shutdown in your 'start' menu.
