# I'm not sure if this breaks the messageboard rules but.....
I wondered if any of you b3tans can help me. I am trying to make a VCD out of a home video. it is 4&1/2 mins long (MPEG) and is 190MB. this seems a bit big to me, as I would like to fit close to 1hr of footage onto a single cd if possible. does anyone know how I could compress it, whilst still being able to be read by a dvd/vcd player (ie. doesn't have to be unzipped first)and which software should I use?

Please, please help!
btw if this post breaks the rules, let me know and I will delete it. :-) thank you!

# yeah, delete it you scummer.
Er... not really. Um, I have no answer to your question. It is too much text and it confused me.

[edit]Mjombly... I like it. What do it mean?

# if it's a vcd you want
NERO will do it for you in the latest version #(6.whatever) www.ahead.de

and you can use it to burn. It can be a bit arsey with some formats though other wise you want to use something like TMPEG from www.tmpgenc.net/

# i already have
the software for making a VCD (Roxio)... i just want to be able to make the MPEG smaller somehow.
any ideas?

# you cant really as VCD have standardised bit rates
as far as I know they cant be made any smaller try www.doom9.org/ they have a lot of guides on this sort of thing

# I use nero to make VCDs
I just drag and drop video files into it and it sorts the rest out for me.

Not sure about the maximum running time I get, but it must be getting on for an hour - half a movie usually.

# to make it into a VCD it recompresses if from a
DV compressed file (fucking huge but nice quality) to an MPEG file of a fixed bitrate and resolution (not so big but not so nice- arround VHS quality but with a bit nicer sound)

The source wont make any difference to the amount of space it takes up a CDROM will hold about an hour of VCD footage no matter where it is from

as far as I understand it
