you use firewirks i believe?
go to export properties change it to a jpeg format at medium quality and see the difference
also crop the white edges off the images

there should be some options in a drop down box, that allow you to choose the file type.

just lets you save as a png. you need to export it in fireworks

doesn't have that, it's png or nothing unless you use optimise export.
