# Not a fan of the xbox?
I have never played one.

*huffs* I really want a PS3 but I'm pissed off with Sony about the whole 'What European market? Oh, fuck them.' thing. Hmmm.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:31, archived)
# I agree
WHy do we always get screwed up with the release dates?! WHY? WHY? WHY?!
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:32, archived)
# because our governments fuck about with them
plus there is far more work to do in terms of localisation.

Its understandable if you ask me.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:38, archived)
# 'far more work in terms of localisation'
I'm not arguing with you, I'm genuinely interested into what what means.

What do you mean toasty?
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:39, archived)
# translation to the various languages
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:41, archived)
# Ah.
They could release it in the UK though, if they're releasing it in the US. Or wait until they were ready and then release it everywhere all at once, to stop people selling them on ebay for £1500....

Am I oversimplifying?
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:42, archived)
# Yup
There's also the issue of voltage - US mains has 120 volts while we have 230 in the UK, so it'll need a whole new transformer, with a UK plug of course...
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:47, archived)
# I just think 5/6 months is a bit pisstaky.
But meh.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:49, archived)
# And then...
...there's the whole PAL/NTSC thing, too, probably.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 14:23, archived)
# and appropriate plug sockets
!
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:45, archived)
# That's not going to take 5 months though, wencharoo!
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:47, archived)
# 5/6 months is nothing
the PS2 took that long to come out.

the PSP took 10 months to come out in Europe after the Japan release.
as did the original playstation.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 14:02, archived)
# I think i'll wait until GTA IV comes out.
By that time the PS3 will probably be under the £89357398435 mark too.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:32, archived)
# Yeah
Plus I don't want a shitty, problem ridden first gen console.

But I want one *jumps up and down, cries in supermarket, throws teddy in puddle*
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:34, archived)
# Yeah thats true
The first bunch of PS2's only lasted about a year before they died.
I've heard so much hype I wanna wait and see for myself.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:39, archived)
# *picks up teddy*
Don't do that, what's he ever done to you?

# *cuddles teddy*
*sucks thumb*
*pouts*
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:41, archived)
# Now, you see? That's better.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:43, archived)
# :D
Are you a father?
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:44, archived)
# That sounds dangerously close to a proposition. :)
But, no I'm not. I am informed by my significant other that I am a pretty good uncle, though.

Edit: I quite like being able to disabuse my nephews of the requirements of worship in the Catholic school they attend.
And swearing in front of them. A lot.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:51, archived)
# live made it for me! and made me a hermit for a year.
i hope the ps3 has good online play.

# could always keep an eye out on eBay for muppets that don't put a reserve price on things...
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:33, archived)
# I haven't played a console since the Dreamcast,
But I hate them all (especially the '360) for brining out good games only on those consoles (the latest GTA for example). They may eventually find their way onto the PC, but I would've thought they had figured out that porting to the PC initially would make them a whole lot more money.

Anyway, a TJ:
I am thinking of going to Sky, because I'm fed up with NTL's shite service. Does anyone have an honest opinion on Sky? Are they as bad as NTL with customer support? What's the broadband like?
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:36, archived)
# Consdering Branson now owns NTL,
I'd say anything is an improvement
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:37, archived)
# branson or murdoch
so you've got a choice of lining either branson's or murdoch's pockets. Nice

I think I'd have to stick with richard "thatcher's poster boy" branson rather than give australian fucktard murdoch a penny of my cash.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:48, archived)
# Sky pisses all over NTL
but they're still a bunch of c***s that charge more than they should.

(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:43, archived)
# All that Sky+ and Sky HD is over priced bollocks, I agree.
But the basic Sky box, and 6 channel packs (all but music and news) seems and ok price at £18 (£9 for first 3 months).
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:46, archived)
# Freeview is free.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:47, archived)
# hmmm, should be able to go cheaper than that
we took out the £7.50 package for the first 3 months, then £15 a month after that,
free installation bollocks and stuff,
not bad considering we can't get freeview
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:49, archived)
# Why not?
Are you on some sort of list in a KGB drawer?
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:50, archived)
# I am a member of the FSB...
/I live in the arse end of nowhere, on the other side of the street they get freeview as they are higher up, we don't - meh
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:52, archived)
# No arial reception in his area I expect
And the basic package is £7.50, which is 2 channel packages, but the one I want is 4 packages, because all of the channels I watch now are spread between those 4.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:52, archived)
# full freeview coverage covers a rather small proportion of the UK.
and no good if you're stuck in a welsh valley facing the arse end of the moon.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:54, archived)
# Even in London
it's patchy and frequently spazzes out with that blocky interference
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 14:01, archived)
# I still don't get some channels.
But then I am unlucky.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 14:16, archived)
# A: GTA4 will be out on the PC. Just after it comes out on the 360 and PS3 first
and
B: Sky are alright but they cunt you over on the following:
- Your sky box must be plugged into the phone line at all times. Unplug it in the first 12 months and they get seriously arsey about it.
- Their broadband covers less area than NTL's cable does.
- It's free, and customer service-wise you get what you pay for.
- You still have to pay BT line rental.
- By giving you a 'free' sky box and equipment they can charge you for call outs and the like, whereas NTL rent you the cable box as part of your fee.

I'm not anti-sky, I have sky plus and another box in my room, but if either fuck up I'll have to leave as I can't afford to replace them.
(, Wed 22 Nov 2006, 13:51, archived)
# Yes, I have heard that Sky charge you a callout fee, whereas I know NTL do it free.
NTL replaced my box 2 days ago because it kept freezing randomly (the picture was fine but the box and remote wouldn't work). This new one not only has the same problem, but is also emitting a nasty buzz which I can only put down to a wiring problem. Their answer? "Leave it a few days and it might fix itself". Well, that or I'll burn to death in an electrical fire...
