# I admit I was stupid and rash
BUT WHY does the internet have to punish me so harshly? I was so keen to 'web up' after a long period of not interweb that I forgot to install my fire wall FIRST. Left the PC on for an hour. Now I want to wipe it all. It got really covered in crap. Lots of poop. 7 dvds worth of mp3s to be backedup first though.

# ah
bugger

# tell me about it!
I looked at the machine and realised I had been hording software. Loads of stuff I never use, so I might as well wipe it all and start again. THat will be 240gig to format. I hope windows does not screw me, I really do.

It will be fun, I keep telling myself.

I am in the land of BURN EVERYTHING now. (In a good way.)

Luckily, it's all devided over 5 physical drives

# so far, 7 dvds of mp3s
I have decided to just delete all my stuff and start afresh. I will burn lots of files and "borrow" the software again. All the important stuff anyway.

Then I can have fun downloading lots of new games, instead of filling up my HD with lots of ones I don't play.

Oh and there is Visual Studio of course.

I am sure most people would benifit from a fresh start. Hording takes over your life.

:)

(I am trying to look on the bright side, honest)

# I was looking
at my machine and there is just loads of crap I dl and never used. The fun part was getting it. I have promised myself I will be tidy next time. AND get rid of my stupid 10gig windows partition.

ha ha haha

tidy computer

haha thats a good one

# this time, try putting all the important stuff on other partitions than c:
makes format/reinstall a lot easier

and don't forget the service packs and the other patches

# yeah
did that,
but I think all the crap is in lots of places.
I dont trust anyof it, i just want to start again. Sacrifice to the god of interweb

# I am trying,
I ran:
Netguard.
Windows Defender
Stinger
Adaware
RootkitRevealer
and had a good hard google of my processes. All the software says everything is fine...now, they each removed about 300 items. BUT this folder called C:\uploads keeps appearing on my c drive and filling up with lots of zips.

I think its time for a format monkey.

# After one hour I am surprised your PC isn't useless
I switched off my firewall for 5 minutes and had to reinstall.

I know somebody who works at an ISP. They removed a server from the firewall and were hit (badly) within 5 seconds.

It's a big bad world out there... good luck!

but lessons learned the hard way are the ones you remember :-)

It is a source of endless annoyance that there are cretins out there whose only purpose in coding is to fuck up your PC.

Just a thought, most B3TARDs seem to have some idea about computers. Just think about what's going on in the "real" world.

I built home machine (clean XP install) and thought OK I can afford to download Installshield first.
Nope.
Fucked before I found the download.
Fortunately I only had to start OS install again, no data loss... but I feel for you.
