It was password-protected too so I couldn't turn it off...

so I did a search for the executable files, stopped them running as processes and then uninstalled the bloody thing. I expect I'll get a call about that at some point.

On the other hand those programs can be used to monitor your usage simply by sharing your desktop...

It's all in the 'Internet Usage' policy thing...

I know this because I've caused several people to get fired (I actually installed the monitoring software - and monitor it ;)
