I would guessthat all of you that are joking about this are not parents. It certainly changes your perspective on stories like this.
On another note, I was reading a book the other day and the author pointed out an oddity in human behaviour. When we hear of less than 10 people dying, we feel sad about it but as soon as the number goes above 10, it actually becomes less sad (unless you know someone involved of course). Maybe it is because it feels less real, and they stop being individuals.
