I'm just hoping for an icon out of it.
Personally I think the parents seem to be a bit too smiley and spend more time in church than I think I'd manage under similar cricumstances.

just sell a made up story to the gutter press about how you knew the parents and how evil (or wonderful, depending on the angle you decide to take) the parents are.
Pretend they treated you in hospitol and you overheard them talking about how much they hate (or love) their kids.

that all of you that are joking about this are not parents. It certainly changes your perspective on stories like this.
On another note, I was reading a book the other day and the author pointed out an oddity in human behaviour. When we hear of less than 10 people dying, we feel sad about it but as soon as the number goes above 10, it actually becomes less sad (unless you know someone involved of course). Maybe it is because it feels less real, and they stop being individuals.
