i just resent the 'w' of the 'nsfw' - as if employers have the right to demand we not view imagery they find abhorrent.

Now I understand.
Just a NS! would suffice.
I do agree, you make a perfectly valid point. One that clearly, I skimmed past like a knobber =]

and, of course, just about everyone clicks on links labelled 'nsfw' anyway - we're like magpies and those four letters are so bright and shiny....

I inspect every shock site before linking friends to it, unlike 90% of my friends do...
Unless they get tricked by me.
I only remembered the other day about someone trying to get me with "lemonparty.com"
I felt like a freak when I corrected them to .org

The problem is that if somebody (anyone - other staff around the office, your managers, other managers, the cleaners, various contractors) sees nasty shit on your computer and feels litigious, they can get a large cash payout from the company.
I have to warn people about it all the time (I have a team of degenerate deviants - I hired them myself). I'm not going to fire anyone for a problem that didn't occur, but some things just aren't cool. It's like whacking off on the bus and calling people prudes if they get upset.

i think that is a good part of it, but i also think it's used as a convenient excuse so those gentle souls who live sheltered lives can have a firm base to build their arguments from.
i think the more close analogy would be someone getting miffed because i was on a bus not wacking off but looking at a book of pictures which seemed erotic or pornographic when glanced at if you were to invade my space and peer into the book i'm holding.
or am i nuts?

A rare state of being in this world. Don't stop now.

except rather than reading a book, you were holding a poster out in front of you and at least 5 other people could see.

i just think we devolve when we have to pretend to be concerned with what the most sensitive people fear 100% of the time.
i'm all for being polite, just not for being forced to be polite at gunpoint.

I mean for fuck's sake, either shit or get off the pot.
That's what I'd say to those guntoters.

I make sure I don't employ easily offended people. Those types usually leave during the interview.

If you're using their internet access, in their office, on their time.
And the reason is because as someone else pointed out, in our current culture of blame the company is liable for it if you offend someone else who looks over your shoulder.
