# I'll try...
No guarantees though. Depends whether I end up working late or not. I was in today cloning new PCs, but tomorrow I have to do some serious design production. Big Deadline on Wednesday night.

(On the recommendation of someone here a while ago, I bought Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition... very nice indeed. Built one system with all the apps on (OS and apps came to 6Gb!), then made a clone image in 12 minutes. Installed a ghost boot partition on the other 5 machines, then cloned the image onto all of them in about 10 minutes. Fantastic!! If I'd had a better grip of what I was doing, I could have saved some other hassle afterwards too, but I'll live and learn. Top bit of software. £22 per machine, plus £16 for the media! Does a great application install snapshot thing too.)

# yep
ghost is marvellarse. finally got round to taking a good, reliable ghost image of my pc after a hard drive failure, hoping never to have to reinstall windows again. and then 2 days later my motherboard died.... back to square 1 then.

# does it work ok
if the spec of the machines is a bit different? can you strip out machine specific device drivers etc before you clone it?

does the application installation thing produce .msi files?

sorry for all the questions, but this could be quite useful for me.

# You can work around it, I think...
it can work with Sysprep to do different systems, but I haven't got to that yet. I had 6 PCs the same, so it was easy. Made an image with OS and ALL our apps on and deployed it.

The app thing is fantastic. The whole thing works as a server console with a client on workstations that just sits in the background invisibly. You install the app once, just the way you want it, with Ghost taking a before and after snapshot of your system. It makes a package of changes to the file system and registry, then you broadcast it to any other machines you need the app on. Superb.

edit - email me to discuss if you want more info - [email protected]

# thanks
i think the app thing is just what i need. i'll take a look.

i'm pissed off with trying to use the crappy msi builder thing that comes with w2k server
