# not all films ruin the books
a film of enders game would not only to visually exciting to watch but also would fit in with hollywood's current trend for politics
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:42, archived)
# but when you know the ending,
the whole story is kinda pointless
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:43, archived)
# how do you mean?
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:43, archived)
# i mean
the whole point of the book, is that you think that he's training for the final battle, and he actually is fighting it all along.

if you read the book, you already know that point, so watching the whole movie is pointless
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:47, archived)
# well the same can be said for any adaptation
a book or a movie isn't about the ending but the journey towards it.

this is why m. night shalyman is a hack.

# but that's exactly why 'signs' and 'the village' are such good films
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:50, archived)
# are you serious?
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:51, archived)
# yes, they have a twist ending
but it's not the point.
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:52, archived)
# but the story telling throughout the movies isn't very good
not only that but you have a constant niggle in the back of your mind saying "this is just a vehicle for the twist at the end"

i'll give him Lady in the Water though. that was great

# i couldn't disagree more.
signs and the village are very well acted. mel gibson has never been better than signs and i savoured ever atmospheric minute of the village.

lady in the water, conversely, is easily one of the five worst films i have ever seen.

# fair enough, i guess he must have plenty of fans or he wouldn't still be working
though after what i've read about the Happening i doubt he shall be much longer.

i'm always amazed people like Micheal Bay movies. personally.

# What about Oldboy?
WHAT ABOUT OLDBOY?!

Also www.imdb.com/title/tt0400403/ - FUCKING HAPPY NOW!?
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 14:58, archived)
# what about it?
the ending was very good but it doesn't do anyone justice to say the ending is everything. especially as that writes off the fantastic hammer sequence
(, Tue 8 Jul 2008, 15:01, archived)
# The ending is the journey, without the ending the rest of the film does not make any sense.
That's not true of all things, M Shamamalyanamamam films could just be dull sub standard horror films without the endings. However Oldboy does not make any sense without the ending, the whole thing leads purely to the ending and the reason he was imprisoned.

# the ending is vapid without the lead up to it still
