# Hahaha is it that bad?
I thought it was alright, I must need a new monitor.

The shadows are all wrong though..

# I'm a bit of a cunt I know.
but there is a lot wrong with it.
You have 2 opposing light sources and this is the first thing that needs to be considered when shopping photo-realism.
Your colour matching is out and it would have helped at the seams to do some texture overlay to go from the sandstone to the marble.
It's a great idea though.

I can't see it too well though, it's a bit small on my screen.

I'm gonna get ripped to shit now.

# yes.

# proof?

# Well erm.
It's me innit. What do you want? That I photoshop something similar to say "look how much better than Barbarossa I am"? I'm not into that. I say 'yes' because as most people here know i do 'arty' photoshopping more than comical and because of that I have spent a lot of money and time on lessons and therefore have learned some technique and basic tenets.
I can shop a bit though.

starting from poser render then completely photoshop.

# I'd seen some of your drawings, but I haven't really seen anything from you
that was a direct photoshop, like what barb is getting up to. That head is pretty impressive, though.

# I don't bother with it
much on b3ta because it gets ignored faster than you can say "worth 1000".

# that is good, point well and truly made...
sorry I ever doubted now...

and I'll agree that good shops tend to get ignored. sad in a way.

# Well not by me, that's all pretty sound advice

# the main reason that it will never work
with these two sources is the light. Even if you can't see why ( I mean the general viewer ) your head is 'hard-wired' into what looks correct and outdoors we have one light source. As soon as the shadows oppose you automatically think something is wrong so its the first thing to consider when finding sources.
You want people to be thinking "how did he do that?" rather than "what exactly is it that seems wrong about that?".

edit:// and sorry. I don't mean to put you down. I hope you take it that I think you are on the right track and just need to remember a few things for future stuff. I do actually mean to help ;)

# No probs
I do normally pay more attention to the light source and the shadows and that sort of stuff.

I can definitely see the faults in the above image.

It's all a learning curve for me, I just do this stuff for fun and giggles really, but it's nice to learn of things I can improve on.

# Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see
You are 100% correct on the vision thing. This is also true for edges and shapes which are visually processed separately. There is no 'video' in your head, and anyway its prob betamax anyway

# don't worry, it's not all about simple dick-sucking
I'd always rather hear how to improve a pic, that's the whole point of b3ta innit?

# Bugger
it looked brilliant to me and now you destroyed it like a butterfly on a wheel...
