It's just far too short and wide, making it difficult to scroll what is information which people may not readily want to access anyway. It would look better and be easier to read if it was a narrow vertical column on either side of the page content.

It lines up fine in Safari and Safari is faster. It also takes up less of the screen. I put it to you that it is best viewed in Safari.

When I first started I was doing any old thing and it was awful, following a tutorial etc.
I developed it for a while and now I have my own style, so it's mainly just getting used to it.
The method is whatever's easiest for you :]
