To be honest with you, it is one of those cases where a person has made a song rather than writing it.
For reference see Jealous Guy by Roxy Music, With a litlle help from my friends by Joe Cocker and many many more....

had he not heard Cale's version and decided "oooh, i can release a version that's identical to that :)"
Buckley comes under the same banner as Cobain and Lennon, he died while people still liked him, so he can do no wrong in the eyes of his fans. fucking hero worship for frankly mediocre talents (yeh Buckley had the voice, but could he write for shit? we'll never know)

Some very good covers...
A couple of decent originals...
Some filler...
Jury's out I'd say.

was thrown together, VERY quickly after he recorded the track for his dad's tribute album and only 4 of the tracks are written by him (there are several co-writes, but there's no way of telling how much input he had so they don't count)
I still don't think that Buckley's Hallelujiah is anything special, nor do i think he'd have had the success he has had if he hadn't died. To be fair he'd probably still be working and recording, but he'd not have the massive "fan" base that he has today

I think they are extremely different from each other.
Also, Grace was a brilliant album, made up pretty much completely of songs that he had written, so yeah, you can judge whether he was a good songwriter.
Also, you may not like Lennon and Cobain yourself, but the fact is that they have sold countless millions of records over the world, so they can't be that shit.

Maybe, but there are some other crackers on there. In my opinion of course. I absolutely love the album, but I can understand cs192's point about the dying young people and the cultish attitude towards them,

But I do love a bit of Benjamin Britten...

I think we can all agree then, Grace by Jeff Buckley is an awesome album and anyone who disagrees is a loser ;D
