Nothing to see here, move along now...

I haven't heard it, and I hope I don't. Jeff's version is too beautiful for words, and I really don't want to listen to this girl's version in case it's popped up to the nines.
Plus I have no idea why it needed to be done. Is she some illiterate that can't write her own songs?

I was nearly sick on my lap when I saw it

it did seem a lot more like the original when I heard it the once.

considering Jeff's version is a cover too.. and he's dead anyway.
At least it wasn't the other version replete with R Kelly style grunts - that one was fucking dreadful.

Specifically to upset those that get sniffy about these sorts of things.

Obviously it'll probably still be generic toss (Hello Leona) but at least it'd be a start.

It's a lot easier to digest a reworking of something familiar than concentrate on something entirely new.

I was actually having this row with my mother last night. She actually thinks that her version is really good.
All this despite the fact that she loves the Buckley version, and she saw Cohen a couple of weeks ago!

To be honest with you, it is one of those cases where a person has made a song rather than writing it.
For reference see Jealous Guy by Roxy Music, With a litlle help from my friends by Joe Cocker and many many more....

had he not heard Cale's version and decided "oooh, i can release a version that's identical to that :)"
Buckley comes under the same banner as Cobain and Lennon, he died while people still liked him, so he can do no wrong in the eyes of his fans. fucking hero worship for frankly mediocre talents (yeh Buckley had the voice, but could he write for shit? we'll never know)

Some very good covers...
A couple of decent originals...
Some filler...
Jury's out I'd say.

was thrown together, VERY quickly after he recorded the track for his dad's tribute album and only 4 of the tracks are written by him (there are several co-writes, but there's no way of telling how much input he had so they don't count)
I still don't think that Buckley's Hallelujiah is anything special, nor do i think he'd have had the success he has had if he hadn't died. To be fair he'd probably still be working and recording, but he'd not have the massive "fan" base that he has today

The Cohen Version: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rf36v0epfmI

The Buckley Version: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ&feature=related
I think they are extremely different from each other.
Also, Grace was a brilliant album, made up pretty much completely of songs that he had written, so yeah, you can judge whether he was a good songwriter.
Also, you may not like Lennon and Cobain yourself, but the fact is that they have sold countless millions of records over the world, so they can't be that shit.

Maybe, but there are some other crackers on there. In my opinion of course. I absolutely love the album, but I can understand cs192's point about the dying young people and the cultish attitude towards them,

personally i prefer the rufus wainright version
paranoia7curse.free.fr/Musique/Shrek%20-%2010%20-%20Hallelujah%20-%20Rufus%20Wainwright.mp3
really don't care for the original, and i agree , buckley is a bit neither here nor there.

Buckley's recording is owned by Sony - i.e. Cowell as well!
It's all pre-planned to make the high trousered arse bag even more minted than he already is!

in the run up to the final he's been doing a lot of press saying that he knows loads of people hate the X Factor...
The Buckley version is revered by so many that anyone with akowledge of the music industry would be well aware of this...
It's a trap and I refuse to give the penny pinching goiter any of my finances.
I'd happily gve the cash to Leonard himself though after his manager swindled him out of around £5m.
