# I've been into a few stores

# I have to say I disgree.
They shop guys know diddly squat but if it's a proper maplin then they'll have the trade counter at the back with a pretty knowledgable bloke there.

# Yeah they need a good beating.
Or worse still start bullshitting me on audio issue.
We there about a month ago some of the lil tykes was happily telling me that I should buy some generic mic was the most robust and used mics in the world.
Not only did I make him look a complete twat in front of customers and coworkers alike. He got a fifteen minute lecture on Shure SM58's that he won't forget in a hurry.

# this was just desparate "NEED THIS SHIT, MUST GET THIS DONE"
have random boards lying about that need to be cased/tested/binned/used etc

too much crap lying about

I'm needing a random bunch of electronic stuff, most of it won't be sourced from maplins.

I do still need to find a cheap eprom eraser, the ones I find on ebay look a bit scary

# how do you confuse the little hexagonal screws used for attaching motherboards
with a set of fucking duracel AAA batteries

what a poo
(, Tue 24 Feb 2009, 12:02, archived)
# And AAA batteries confuse polydrive screwdrivers?
(, Tue 24 Feb 2009, 12:04, archived)
# Cheap batteries then?
(, Tue 24 Feb 2009, 12:06, archived)
# they sent me a set of AAA duracel batteries instead of the standoffs which I'm desparate for (hence maplin)
ok, just phoned them, they are going to resend the correct item and I can keep the batteries

\o/

the universe is saved

unless of course they send me 3 lengths of red plastic.

# i had to buy a replacement laptop adapter for my grilfriends laptop after a dog chewed the original
we picked out the right one and took it to the counter where a smarmy woman asked me if i had selected the correct one because it might be "the wrong current". I reassured her that it was the right one. She looked at me dubiously and then suggested that I buy a different one. I again told her no. She then started muttering that many people say the same thing and then end up trying to bring them back the next day. I then told her that I had a degree in electronic engineering and that my girlfirend, standing next to me had a degree in computing and that between us we could probably work it all out. She went a little red.

# I like that
but I think it would have been just as good a yarn without the invention of the girlfriend character ;)

# I get annoyed when
staff ask if they can help, when they clearly can't.

Like in Dixons/Currys/whatever it's called this week.

"Do you sell multiregion DVD recorders?"
Assistant proceeds to scan the cards on the shelf.
I slap my forehead and leave
(, Tue 24 Feb 2009, 12:13, archived)
# Urgh, this
Why would I need you to help me with something I'm just as capable of doing, and will have done before you came over, probably much more carefully than you are.

But then, I have a real thing about being harrassed in shops, if I want help I'll come to you. I can deal with quick 'need any help?' or 'you okay there?' if it's someone who CAN help, that's just polite/professional, but don't follow me around or keep talking if I clearly tell you I'm fine!
(, Tue 24 Feb 2009, 12:20, archived)
# Oh, god - this!
Assistant: "Hi there, can I help at all?"

Me: " ... "

Me: "I doubt it."
