Bread, noodles, pasta and rice are great when you're in need.
Always buy beer from tesco and drink as much as is necessary before a night out
Some dirt cheap cider is surprisingly nice
You can get some decent deals down Castle Market if you're not too fussy
I guess you know all this

I'm in a similarly tight position atm although it's less down to what food I eat and the fact I dont have a proper job :/
