# The question bugging me this hour

Is how can someone make 223 frames fit in under a 32K file? What is this sorcery?

# tiny, limited use of colours, not that much actually changing each frame
if it was an animation of Nicolas Cage punching a woman in a bear suit (nicolas is the one in the bear suit) a hundred times from a hundred angles then it might have had a big file size

# Then why is this over 300K?

# also
diagonal lines don't GIFerize very well

# small colour palette
no dithering, dont add salt, solid colours compress betterer, gradients are a no no and always lift your dhalias in the autumn

#
This is 27 frames, 20 K
If I'd made it 223 frames long it would be 168K.

# There is a lot more movement each frame though,
your dots in the middle are constantly changing :)

# Got it down to 11 for you too ;)

EDIT: Your paddles change as do the numbers too :D

# Arses.
I guess it's down to the pixels.
(, Tue 14 Apr 2009, 18:04, archived)
# Oh yeah, this too.
Try copy and pasting the dots from one frame into all the others so they don't change.

# Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
(, Tue 14 Apr 2009, 18:02, archived)
# It's physically larger which accounts for part of it.
(, Tue 14 Apr 2009, 17:58, archived)
# Ehhhhh, depends.
When you're doing a gif in photoshop it generally depends on the number of layers used/how much of the screen actually physically changes.

So if you've just got 1 black background layer with the dotted line down the middle, and some layers of the paddles in 6 or so positions down the side, then you can make new frames using the existing layers in different configurations, saving loads of space.

These are just over 10K each and they had about 100-150 frames in and a fair amount of layers. It's all being economical with what you use.

# Do you think Nicholas Cage
really believes all this conspiracy theory rubbish his movies all seem to be about? Or do you think he just knows how to make a quick buck cashing in on the fears of obsessed nerds and cranks?
