if it was an animation of Nicolas Cage punching a woman in a bear suit (nicolas is the one in the bear suit) a hundred times from a hundred angles then it might have had a big file size
When you're doing a gif in photoshop it generally depends on the number of layers used/how much of the screen actually physically changes.
So if you've just got 1 black background layer with the dotted line down the middle, and some layers of the paddles in 6 or so positions down the side, then you can make new frames using the existing layers in different configurations, saving loads of space.
These are just over 10K each and they had about 100-150 frames in and a fair amount of layers. It's all being economical with what you use.
