# !!
In other news, check out the my new baby poking out one of my 5D2's:

32 fucking GBs, we live in ever so slightly mental times; I spotted this on Monday and it got expressed delivered for shear WTF pleasure

# I first spotted b3ta in 1999
with a home PC with a 13GB HD, and at the time that seemed like a beast. Times change
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:35, archived)
# b3ta didn't exist in 1999
:)

# I didn't own a computer until 2004.
In fact, I didn't own a computer until 2006, but I borrowed one in 2004.

# yes it did
it was about in 1998 too, it had a revamp soon after
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 23:00, archived)
# No it wasn't.

# I was at college from 1998 to 1999
yes it bloody well was
I had a pc since 1996 but not the internet at home until 2002 (i think)

# You are wrong.

# I remember buying, in 1998
two 5.2GB hard drives which were the largest commercially available.
The cost me £245 each.

Times certainly do change. The PC I was building cost me nearly £3000 and I can build something that makes it look like a calculator for around £250.

# My MESH cost about £1300 and was literally a beast at the time
and was for a good couple of years, then very quickly seemed very old; though I got seven years out of it
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 23:04, archived)
# hehe. I got about 14 months out of mine before I replaced almost all of it.
And I've been doing the same ever since. Only now I have 5 of the things instead.

all i'm seeing is a camera

# I am awed by a camera which can take a photo of the back of itself
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:33, archived)
# I'm in awe of the fact that the focal range of whatever is taking the photo seems to be about a millimeter
given everything else is out of focus.

# mr b3th has a Nikon 4500
with a macro of 1cm. Really good for photos of jewellery and stuff.
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:37, archived)
# I've got the same, macro focal range that is.
I've got a Fujifilm FinePix S100FS.

Best/cheapest camera I could find with actual manual controls and without a range of ridiculously expensive lenses I would have to buy.
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:41, archived)
# I still use this old beast
and I'm confident that in a blind taste test it will still produce better pictures than any compact or modern digital below the dslr range.

# Not enough twiddly knobs for my liking.
I hate cameras where you have to go through menus and press buttons to change apeture and shutter speeds.

Trying to find a cheap camera which has manual controls is fucking nigh impossible though, the original one I was looking at getting went out of production in about 6 months.
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 23:04, archived)
# actually it's as simple as it gets
buttons all at the easy reach of two fingers and once your settings are set up it's really a case of point, zoom, shoot.
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 23:07, archived)
# I was actually trying to focus on the intended subject :)
But the 85MM f/1.2 is a rather lovely lens

# Fiddling around around with glass in the company of two snow leopards with razor sharp claws
reminded me why it's a good idea to own two bodies; the Canon 5D2 is such a mental camera I bought another one :)
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:37, archived)
# bah. Don't
turn all pretentious and start talking about 'glass' you twat ;)

# Oops, wrong forum!
But seriously, I only got that for the video mode on the camera which munches up memory like you wouldn't imagine; I still would feel rather cautious about having 32gb of .raw pictures on the same card, in case it pulled a mental
(, Wed 13 May 2009, 22:52, archived)
# I have 8gb on mine
and never use it. Quite a shame. However I am jealousing. I could do with one of those on my phone ( also currently 8gb ) to carry movies around on.

# I still use a Canon AE-1
I only have one though.

My big Fuji takes SmartMedia. I think it's possibly the only camera left in Britain that does.
