# the number of games it believes you to have played
depends on how many times you exited the game (obviously) but also how many times you enter and exit dungeons. In one of the very last dungeons (where you get the mirror shield) Link has no choice but to exit and follow a ledge outside, which puts your game number up.

I have thought about this too much too
