# Phone them up, tell them you're going to close your account and they'll give you at least one month free.
Srsly I do it all the time.

Edit: also, www.youtube.com/watch?v=On1drhgxGWU I laughed.

# yes
every few days (when it goes shit-shaped yet again) we phone them and shout at them, and a bit more gets chipped off the bill. we're going for the 'free' HD box next month :)

EDIT: that youtube clip :D hahaha

it happened to me as a kid, and what goes around, inevitably comes around. was much more fun when i was the driver, not the bus-stopper! :D

# It's funny until you think about the kids having to spend all day at school in drenched clothes
But fuck it don't think that far

or when they get to school sit on a radiator for a while

# Im with them
It's quite slow at times.... some 50mb connection this is! :(
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:22, archived)
# They're still better than shitty BT.
I moved from BT to Virgin about 6 months ago. Huge improvement.
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:25, archived)
# I had Be last year... was only 24... but it seemed faster than this
That might be because my housemate is always rinsing rapidshare for all it's worth... but nevermind

# Do a speed test when everyone else is out and see if you're actually getting anywhere near 50mb
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:28, archived)
# My flatmate did one
Apparently it's 40 on cable
and about 26 on wireless
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:28, archived)
# That's not too bad.
Broadband "megabits" are a massive con. Nobody ever gets what they're paying for.
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:30, archived)
# I'm on the 20mb package.
Just got 11.5 on speedtest.net

That's sufficient for my needs.

I do find that about once a week the connection drops, usually about 9am. I can connect to the wireless, but the router can't connect to the internet. It usually comes back on mid-afternoon. I think it might be the netgear router that's the problem though.
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:50, archived)
# FUCK!
1.59mb download! WTF

WE ARE PAYING FOR 50!!!

RAGE ANGER ETC!!!!
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:30, archived)
# I just did one - paying for 10 and getting 9.86 which amazes me.
Virgin, as well.

# Mine might be due to my shitty wireless dongle on the pc

# stop paying for 50Mb
they won't have their hardware ready for another couple of years
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:36, archived)
# :(
It's between 3 of us, so it aint THAT bad.

And it was only like a couple of quid more a month for it than the 20mb one.
It's done now, not a lot else we can do about it apart from be very british and moan and not do anything
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:37, archived)
# What annoys me about Virgin is they change your 'no page found' thing. Look:

(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 23:07, archived)
# Odd.
If I type in an URL that is wrong, that's what I get. It replaces the old Microsoft LiveSearch that I used to get with BT.
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 23:21, archived)
# Possibly it's their DNS servers.
I know OpenDNS have their own Not Found pages too.

# yeah
peak times is like dial-up sometimes...
20Mb? only at 4am.

(it went off as i was trying to reply to you earlier - my xbox live has run out, that's why you've not seen me on there recently )
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:27, archived)
# Ah, fair enough
I managed to get a new one for 25 quid :D

Bargin!

It probably doesnt help that Virgin have basically a monopoly around here, pretty much everyone is on them, that surely can't help the speeds
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:28, archived)
# 50Mb at 50:1 contention
but it's probably more than 50:1, so shitter than shit. but on the plus side, it's expensive!
(, Tue 13 Oct 2009, 22:31, archived)
# I was with Virgin and they were fucking shit,
so I went to O2 and had no problems.
