# One of my favourite books
Was listening to an article on Radio Bore about him the other day - in a rather delicious irony, he was an absolute posh boy with a desperate fear of the prolitariat.

Still - 1984 is fantastic. Combine it with Huxley's Brave New Woild and you've got pretty well exactly where modern Western capitalism is today.

Sorry - I'll shut up now.

# I'm currently on a Bill Bryson hit.
Notes from a small island had me lidderally lolling on the tube on my commute.

I'm currently on A Short History Of Nearly Everything and Neither Here Nor There, the latter of which is having a very similar effect.

# Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, at the moment
It's probably the longest I've taken to read a book, as even with zombies and ninjas, Austin is a tedious author. Reads like a script "Such and such said this, so and so replied with that, such and such retorted with this, and much laughter ensued" ad infinitum.
(, Tue 16 Feb 2010, 9:33, archived)
# Yeah I've never got on with Austen.
To me it seems like it's the original chick lit.

I scored very highly on QI after reading that

# It is.
Engaging - but not so lolly as the others.

But bloody hell BB's brain must be the fullest in all of Christendom.

# And if you find all the Fordian goings-on in BNW too much
have a copy of Island (by him as well) close to hand as respite.

# hmmm.. not read that either....
I'm starting to feel poorly read this morning.

There are so many books I've not yet got round to. The ex used to work at a publishers, so many many freebies ensued.

# I used to get about with a son-and-heir to a stately home, and one evening they were talking about the 'bus service in Mordor
His gran was going on about how terrible it was, they turned on her and said "But you've never got on a 'bus in your life!"

"Fair enough" said she - "I will get one tomorrow."

Sure enough she did, and as she stepped up to the driver said "92 Smithway Drive, please"
