# Ha!
Just out of curiousity, has anyone here had any experience of getting a book published?

(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 9:47, archived)
# I think you mean 'Nope!'

# ^this

# Aha!
I was just curious as I'd like to write a spot of fiction and wondered how to crack into that racket...

# my brother-in-law is a tv comedy writer
he's written a book though, but his agent/editor chopped it about so much that he decided to self-publish

# Awesome (the comedy-writing bit)
Must be a grand job.

# yer
he does 2 hours a day in the afternoons - the BBC just say "Think of funny stuff, and we'll pay you"

# If you think you can turn your hand to drama, the BBC are great.
They'll give unsolicited scripts a read, and they're always producing stuff by new writers. Have a look around: www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/

# Nope!
Me again.

# I have read some books, if that's any help.

# From my ex's experience,
A good agent is really the only way to go. Vanity Publishing (doing it yourself) tends to end up just costing you money, and not getting a 'deal'.

Or should I have said 'Nope'?
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 9:57, archived)
#
yes, you should have said 'Nope!'
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 9:58, archived)
# I knew I'd got it wrong.
Sorry.
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 10:00, archived)
# I did self-publish a book,
but I did it through lulu.com, who print on demand, so no money has to be paid and they also list it on Amazon for free.
However, it's still rather depressing having to do all the PR for it.
Ta!
(, Wed 10 Mar 2010, 10:14, archived)
# That's the thing, the marketing and PR get taken care of through the agent.
getting it to book fairs and the like.
