This is a link post Selfies now claim more lives than shark attacks
Stupid figure, because I'm sure many things do. However, natural selection is adapting to technology.

Example: "South Korean tourist fell in northern Peru while taking a selfie at the Gocta waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in the world. He plunged more than 1,600 feet."

This is a normal post I don't really hate people taking pictures of themselves. It's been going on since humans started drawing on cave walls with shit.
What I hate is when t'internet spawns these horrible fucking slang terms for stuff that we already have perfectly adequate vocabulary to describe.
Fucking 'selfies', it's taking a fucking photo of yourself. Just describe it as 'taking a fucking photo of yourself'. If you're particularly narcissistic then by all means call it a 'self portrait', but for fuck's sake, we don't need a new entry in the Oxford English fucking Dictionary for another bloody shitword.
I suppose I should count myself lucky that I don't work in an art gallery. I shudder to think about how many kids on school trips have referred to works as 'selfies' with absolutely no sense of irony whatsoever.

This is a normal post I agree. Self portraits are part of the human experience. Apparently, so is idiocy.
I looked back at my spawn's early years and realized there was a two year period where there were no photos of me, like I didn't exist, because I was the one taking all the photos. Now I get in them, and I don't only mean the dick pics.

This is a normal post It is indeed a beastly term
and one which I gather started in Australia, where they seem to come up with numerous jarring contractions of perfectly adequate terms.

The other thing I find strange is that people are taking so many photos - but never actually printing any of them out on proper photographic paper. They just seem to accumulate on memory cards.

This is a normal post Met up with some of my wife's ex PhD friends in London on Sunday
One working in Switzerland informed me of this:
www.post.ch/en/about-us/company/media/press-releases/2014/send-free-postcards-from-your-mobile-phone
So now she sends herself a postcard every day of one of the photos she takes

This is a normal post half the problem
is a selfie pic has is of no real interest to anyone but yourself, I hate photographs of myself so the idea of selfies makes me cringe.
Anther side of it, is how 90% of these people are putting out crap on the internet that is of no use to anyone, no artistic merit, nothing. Just pure brainless shit.

As far as self portraits go, I like to paint, so I do make self portraits.

I just don't get why people put out their shitty pictures like they do, like there nothing better they can think of than taking a dumb photo of themselves or their fucking food.

I do self portraits as well, mainly because I can't offend me if they are crap.

This is a normal post It's the new narcissism
Instead of people taking pictures of a beautiful place to remember that place, they now take pictures of themselves at a beautiful place, so it's now about them, "look at me at this beautiful place" the place has become irrelevant.

Or perhaps it's to help prevent Alzheimer's?

This is a normal post I feel the exact opposite.
Selfie doesn't offend nearly as much YOLO or the way we no longer have a word for what used to be called hacking. What pisses me off is how snapping a picture of something takes precedence over actually enjoying it and how the ease of self-publishing has given a certain sort of person reason to think they're an extra special little snowflake.

This is a normal post My biggest pet hate is how the term 'Troll' has been misappropriated so massively over the past few years.
Trolling is all about harmless provocation. It's the art of winding folk up whilst avoiding causing any kind of harm and without malice, entirely for amusement.
Trolling is NOT making horribly abusive, personally targeted comments designed to cause huge amounts of offense or degradation to the receiving party.
It fucks me off that the real meaning has been completely lost in the whirlpool of media hysteria.

That didn't used to mean being a cunt either.
