*something about lab rats who live happy social lives choosing not to drink the cocaine water*
I stopped drinking about 7 months ago and it is incredible how irritating people are when they're pissed. It's how I imagine I must have been like when I was a ket-head.

and you can simulate that gliding-through-the-world feeling a functional alcoholic gets after the first drink of the day.

I find it's strangers/crowded bars that can be irritating.
Saturday night ended up being my OH trying to out-drink a couple of my old, old friends whilst I remained designated driver. Top night.

I'm approximately 15 months sober after many failed attempts and no longer miss it at all. In fact, my sobriety has led to me quitting tobacco and all other recreational drugs (besides caffeine, obvs).
Giving up booze is no joke (especially if you're an alcoholic), but when you finally get past all the pink clouds and finally have that eureka moment where you're no longer afraid of drinking alcohol and instead just see it as something you really don't want in your body, the feeling of freedom is incredible.
Sobriety has made me no less of a grumpy cunt, mind you. Don't be expecting miracles. But for now at least, I have absolutely no desire to ever get pished again.
(P.S. AA is fucking awesome, and no doubt saved my life. But just don't feel obligated to stay any longer than you truly feel you need to, and don't let them pressure you into getting a sponsor if you don't want one. Also, it fucking IS about *that* God, despite all their protestations otherwise. That being said, you're an idiot not to go along at least a few times if you can't stop drinking - it's meeting other alkies and realising that you aren't a lost cause that makes it really worthwhile. Plus the stories are often fucking hilarious.)

I'm in my 8th year of sobriety - I used to think that there was only one thing in life that would make me happy, but now that it's gone everything makes me happy.
