Jim Bakker hears from The Lord on a regular basis and is often told of impending disasters, which is not as bad as it sounds if, like Jim, you happen to be in the business of selling survival buckets full of powdered peanut butter or some kind of instant soup. Jim is not just a vessel of The Lord, he’s also a great storyteller, and a convicted conman.

I used to watch that on tv while getting ready for work, back in the 80's
Me and my room mate would laugh our asses off. Great way to start the day.
Also, Dr. Gene Scott was a riot.

A need to believe, wildly manipulated by fraudsters, plus conformity.
I guess those who con find willing marks who, having already accepted the irrational, are more malleable.
I do wonder how many of these people enjoy fooling others and ramp up the ridiculousness to see how far they can go.
