Watching a week's worth of decent how-to DIY videos would make you a more competent Joiner than the vast majority of fuckwits that actually call themselves 'Joiners'.

I imagine you think the same about every job/profession in the world, due to the Dunning-Kruger effect. I apologise if this is inaccurate.

I don't know enough about other professions to make that call. I know more than enough about joinery to know that a worrying percentage of 'joiners' that I speak to on a daily basis don't even know the difference between a self-drilling and a self-tapping screw or how to correctly install a hammer fixing, never mind the sheer number that use the "I'm not really fussed, it's not my house" and "I'll be long gone before any problems crop up" mantras.
#notalljoiners, mind. But the good ones are usually in such demand that you're waiting six months to do a job you could have done yourself with a bit of practice in one.

Useful. For the laymen among us, why would you use a carrot? Instead of say, frozen prawns?

... as soon as they thaw, they will lose what little compressive strength they had in the first place.
King Prawns on the other hand - better than carrots, if you can afford them!
