Hislop would like people to believe he's a thorn in the side of the powerful when he's completely and utterly tame and has been for years.
In the improbable event that anyone would ever have a pop at him, the more likely culprit would be someone who's seen his kid do one of his excruciating skits on youtube

That's fair enough, but saying he's irrelevant seems excessive. For example, didn't Private Eye report on the Post Office scandal well before it reached mainstream news?

Both the article you posted and the BBC report state that it was the cab driver that thought the cab had been shot at, not Hislop.

He doesn't. He's a tragic old fart trading off a myth he built up 30 years ago. He's mildly irritating to local authorities these days. Toothless and decrepit.
